Smashbox Foundation Primer is My New BFF

Foundation Primer is a funny thing. For the longest time, I believed it was just another ploy by the all knowing Beauty mags to empty more money out of my ever diminishing bank account. Still, that did not stop me from buying my Laura Mercier primer and using it religiously despite barely noticing a difference between my made up face with or without.

My feelings have drastically changed and my skepticism dashed after trying a sample of the Smashbox Photo Finish that is all the rage in Allure and Elle. This primer is a clear gel that looks almost as though it would be goopy but rather it has a velvety texture when smoothed onto my freshly washed face and transforms my formerly uneven mug. According to Smashbox, the magic is in the grapeseed extract that soothes and protects skin and creates a perfect canvas for make up of all kinds.

I recommend that you all check it out. At least try a sample of it because I can almost guarantee you will be as pleasantly surprised as I was. And I am a supreme beauty product junkie who has become jaded by all their empty promises.

Skinny Me This

With the SS07 forecast showing that high waist and wide leg trousers are going to be all the rage, us gals who love a skinny pant may feel slightly pushed aside. But look at the bright side, all of our favorite shops must clear their shelves of the "formerly chic" for the pants of the future. What does that mean for us skinny devotees?

The Faux Pas of a Plaid Jumper

Source: Teddy & Moo's
It truly pains me to post about Lindsay Lohan in two consecutive days. But when I saw this atrocious attempt at a jumper look, I felt compelled to do so. If you remember my initial post on Nicole Richie's silk jumper look, you will note that I am not totally biased against the jumper. Although I think it is hard to pull it off in a flattering way and still remain chic.
This point was proved by Miss Lohan in this plaid number she wore to a trip to her local McD's. First off, the jumper does not fit properly. It almost looks as though she is wearing a diaper underneath the sagging bottom. And the plaid yields the image of stacking hay in a barnyard. Although it looks comfortable and possibly suitable for a trip to McD's, I almost wish I had not seen it as it again sparked my fear of the jumper.

The Sneaker Dilemma

I would like to bring up a dilemma that I have been struggling with since the seasons have been changing. That being the pairing of my good old Chuck T's with shorts, skirts, and dresses.
Now I first probably should explain that I live for Converse or Vans of any kind. So when the weather gets hotter around here, I often feel glum as I push my sneakers to the back of my closet half-heartedly.
I have yet to see anyone pull of a dress with sneakers of any kind. No matter how cute said dress is or how trendy said sneakers are (Ahem, Lindsay Lohan).

April Showers Supposedly Bring May Flowers

The rain has chased away my hopes of an early summer. Though the weather has given me an excuse to tote around my fabu Marc Jacobs graphic umbrella. Still I remain feeling glum. Therefore I scoured the web for an outfit that feels perfectly spring like.

Art of the Silk Jumper

Very few people can pull of a jumper. In my opinion, nary a soul can pull of a silk jumper. At least those were my thoughts (the few I had on the subject) until I saw this shot of Miss Richie strutting her stuff down Rodeo. Granted, she weighs about as much as a pea...possibly two and cannot really represent a normal individual's fashion choice. Yet I have to say she pulls this ambitious look off in a way that very few others could. And on a side note, I love the blonde hair.

America's Next Top Loser Prediction

Predictions for tomorrow's ANTM episode??

We have reached the point in the season where I feel as all of the predictable girls have been eliminated and now it is really a toss up. All the girls left have proven to take very pretty pictures.

But to be honest I think that Renee is going to go. She is pretty but aside from the snarky attitude she doesn't bring an edge to the competition.

All in all, I was happy the minute they got rid of Jael!

***Update: Tomorrow's show is a Clip Show...so I suppose we will have to wait until next week to see if my psychic powers were right.

So What if Ugg is Short for Uggly?

Source: Flynet
Yes. I am aware that Uggs are disgustingly passe. And that anyone who is anyone should have burned their $100+ horrible trendy yet delicious comfortable footwarmers when the ball dropped in 2005. But I cannot stop wearing my beat up mocha brown tall Uggs for the life of me. Granted...I stopped briefly during that Chicago warm spell (see below) but since the weather has taken a downhill turn, I find it hard to resist the calling of the creamy sheepskin from my closet. So finally, one of my favorite celeb fashionistas is caught donning the same faux pas I regretfully slip on from time to time. Oh RBils, you may have made a mistake when you let the Brodyman go but how it warms my heart to see you caught wearing Uggs in April.

Musings on the High Waisted

I do not have any brilliant new insight into the emerging trend of high waisted jeans. I feel compelled to put in my two cents (if that).

Now I am a proponent of the skinny jean…low waist and stove pipe legs is how I prefer my denim. Despite many dissenting opinions, I believe that this shape is universally flattering, as long as you find the right cut…the skinny jean does just that…it skinnys.

Therefore, a wide leg must be quite exquisite to appeal to my taste. Now I can easily fall for a wide leg low waist that resembles a boyfriend’s jean as they can be flattering on us regular girls although not as put together as a tighter style. Decent for a walk in the park on a lazy Saturday or and afternoon movie on a rainy Saturday. But the high waist wide leg is an entirely different species. It takes a tall skinny girl to really pull these off without looking like a. you are wearing a diaper or b. you should go back to Studio 54.

So of my three examples, I would have to say that Miss Mischa pulls off this look the neatest but I would have paired it with a crisp white puff sleeve button down to avoid the used 70s era look of the rock and roll t-shirt.

Urban My Outfitters

Now that summer is in full swing over here in the windy city (or at least in my head as it has just barely topped 60 degrees), I am thinking dresses, dresses, and more dresses. I used to be a strictly jeans kind of a girl. Never really was into dresses or skirts. But now trapeze me, balloon me, or wrap me...any time any way.

So I decided to check out Urban Outfitters sale pages to see what hidden gems I could find there. Now I always struggle at the sale basement at my local Urban Outfitters as half the crap I see there is barely fit for my grandmother's closet. But the real way to shop UO sale is online.

Every since my initial post going on and on about the wonders of the "Shop It to Me" email service I have been thinking that maybe I should put my money where my mouth is. So to speak. So I have decided that I will post a daily find that has been delivered to my inbox via my email subscription. So I can really prove the wonder that is this service. Hopefully I will convert some of you as I have been converted. Okay...now it just sounds creepy. :)

"A Rich Fantasy Life"- I am in Love

My dear little brother always gives me the most thoughtful gifts. Seriously there is probably no one else who knows me better than he does. This Christmas he surprised me as usual and bought me a subscription to Art News.

Okay. I'll admit it. My name is Hilary and I am addicted to Contemporary Art. It is a painful defect to have as once again this collecting hobby falls into an ever growing category of "Things I Will Never Afford".

Excuse the tangent and back to the point.

Art News brings the gallery hunting joy to my own apartment every month and you cannot beat that. (Well, that's not true...there is nothing better than sipping wine at an art opening aside from a fresh pair of CLs). This month I was delighted to see one of my favorite contemporary livin artists on the cover, Ryan McGinness. His clean abstract prints are breathtakingly modern and whimiscal at the same time.

I can only dream...
